04.22.14 | Very proud to learn that Magnetic Reconnection has won the Alberto Signetto Special Award for the Best DocuShort at the Skepto International Film Festival in Cagliari, Sardinia! This inaugural prize serves to represent the memory of filmmaker Alberto Signetto. Also in Italy, Magnetic Reconnection will screen at the Trento Film Festival in Trento, Italy. Trento Film Festival showcases the very best in outdoor film programming, and we're pleased to be in competition. Check out their very cool map to see where the films screening this year at Trento were made.

03.22.14 | More screenings to announce. In addition to a dozen new screenings through the Rural Route Tour, Magnetic Reconnection has also been invited to the CineGlobe festival at Cern, Switzerland (think Hadron Collider), this weekend, and the Skepto International Film Festival in Caligari in April.

02.18.14 | If you’re in Wisconsin this weekend be sure to catch Magnetic Reconnection at the Beloit International Film Festival. It screens four times including Thursday,  Friday and Sunday. Another upcoming screening is at FAME, the Film and Music Experience in Paris, running March 13-16th at la Gaîté Lyrique's Auditorium. 10.23.13 | Magnetic Reconnection is going to RIDM, the Montreal International Documentary Festival. It has been invited into official competition in the short film documentary category, one of two Canadian films in the eleven short films invited to the competition. It's a huge festival and a real honour to be invited. The 16th annual RIDM will take place from November 13-24 at Cinéma du Parc, Excentris, the Cinémathèque québécoise and Concordia University. Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to the 12th Annual Anchorage International Film Festival in Alaska and has been invited to the Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, North Carolina.

10.14.13 | CPH DOX, also known as the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, has invited Magnetic Reconnection to be a part of their festival in November. Established in 2003 and held annually in Copenhagen, Denmark, CPH:DOX has grown steadily ever since to become one of the largest documentary film festivals in Europe. Magnetic Reconnection has been paired with the longer format doc "Attenborough and Bjork: The Nature of Music" and screens three times over the festival.

10.06.13 | Magnetic Reconnection took 2nd place among 800 submissions from seventy countries at the Eighth Annual Big Sur Int'l Short Film Festival. A press release is under preparation by the sponsoring organization, the Henry Miller Memorial Library. The celebrity jury includes Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Kirsten Dunst, and Vilmos Zsigmond. Congratulations to Vincent Mariette, whose film Les Lézards won 1st prize!

09.27.13 | Magnetic Reconnection won the Edmonton Film Prize! The award was announced last night by Edmonton Film Commissioner Brad Stromberg at the opening gala of the Edmonton International Film Festival. It is a real honour to have the film recognized like this in Kyle's hometown.

09.26.13 | Magnetic Reconnection has been shortlisted for the 2014 Cinema Eye Honors in the Short Film category. There are a number of ways to qualify, including being invited to three of the following festivals: Sundance, Berlin, True/False, SXSW, Full Frame, Tribeca, San Francisco, Hot Docs, Cannes, Sheffield, AFIDOCS, Los Angeles, Toronto, Camden, CPH:DOX or IDFA. Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to four of the above. After qualification (around 100 short documentaries worldwide qualified) the jurors selected their top 15. A further shortlist of 5 will be announced, with the winner announced at the Museum of Moving Image in New York in January of 2014. Humbled to be a part of such an amazing program.

Renowned doc filmmaker James Marsh had this to say about the Cinema Eye Honors: “For documentary filmmakers and the many other craftspeople who contribute to a documentary film, the Cinema Eye awards have quickly become the most significant and valuable awards in our world".

9.09.13 | Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to the Calgary International Film Festival and the Camden International Film Festival, and as well has been awarded "Best Experimental Film" at the Rural Route Film Festival. It will be highlighted during their "Best of/Shorts" Touring Program this year. Very exciting!

07.08.13 | Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to the 16th Annual Guanajuato International Film Festival. The largest and most prominent film festival in Mexico with 90,000 attendees, the festival is held in the picturesque city of Guanajuato in central Mexico, which we hear is warmer than Churchill, Manitoba in February.  Also another couple of screenings in Maryland, this time at the 32nd Annual Artscape in downtown Baltimore, where Magnetic Reconnection screens on July 20th and 21st.

07.02.13 | Another pairing to be proud of, Magnetic Reconnection will precede Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo at the Museum of Moving Image in New York presented as part of Rural Routes Film Festival on August 3rd. It's a huge honour to be able to screen before this masterpiece, and in such an astonishing theatre as the Museum of Moving Image. 

06.20.13 | Two festivals to announce. First, the Anacortes Unknown Music Series in Anacortes Washington will be screening Magnetic Reconnection during the July 19-21 weekend. This is our kind of festival: music and film, with real independence and original programming. Excellent. Also excellent is the invitation to another great outdoor film screening, at the 2nd annual Madeline Island Summer Film Series in La Pointe, Wisconsin on the shores of beautiful Lake Superior. The screening of Magnetic Reconnection at Madeline Island is during the July 11-13 weekend. 

06.05.13 | Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to Big Sur Short Film Screenings. Located in the stunning central California coast region of Big Sur, the screenings are an extension of the Henry Miller Memorial Library Foundation, and selections have been made from nearly 1000 entries. What's notable about this festival is the jury which includes iconic sound artist Laurie Anderson, renowned composer Phillip Glass, Academy Award winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond and actress Kirsten Dunst, among others. Leaving us blinking in disbelief. The screenings are imminent: June 12 and 13. 

05.01.13 | Much to announce... Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to the 2013 Seattle International Film Festival. Held annually since 1976, it's considered among the top festivals in North America and runs for more than 3 weeks in May and June. This year's programming screens an astounding 447 films including 175 shorts and is yet another Academy Award qualifying festival for short films.

Thrilled to be invited to Roof Top Films! Over 20 000 people attend this unique summer long series in NYC featuring feature films and shorts from around the world. Magnetic Reconnection screens on June 12th as part of the Interface Innovation short film package at the Metrotech Commons, spitting distance from the Brooklyn Bridge. All screenings feature live music before the films and past standouts include TV on the Radio, The Mountain Goats, and members of Fugazi and Califone. "A collection of new short films featuring datamoshed moments and postmodem lifestyles, accompanied by new interactive works from the Brooklyn Experimental Media Center and the CITE Game Innovation Lab, both at NYU-Poly."

Magnetic Reconnection has been also invited to the Maryland Film Festival, May 8-12 in Baltimore. The film is part of the Experimental Shorts package (and in good company, alongside Tsai Ming-Liang's film Walker) and screens Thursday May 9th and Saturday the 11th. Also on the East Coast, Magnetic Reconnection is paired up with Leviathan once again in Portland, Maine on Friday, May 17th and Sunday, May 19th at SPACE Gallery. And yet another Edmonton screening around the corner, this time as part of FAVA's Awards of Excellence, where Magnetic Reconnection won Best Experimental Film. May 15th at the Metrocinema.

04.05.13 | Magnetic Reconnection has been named Best Short Film at the Canadian Music Week Film Festival and Best Experimental Film at FAVA Fest 2013. There's also a number of new screenings to check out including, notably 15 or so pairing Magnetic Reconnection with the staggering feature documentary film Leviathan, and one in Chicago with Apocalypse: A Bill Callahan Tour Film

03.08.13 | The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival has announced its official lineup and Magnetic Reconnection has been invited. The festival runs early in April in Durham, North Carolina. The festival is considered one of the premiere documentary festivals and for the first time, Full Frame is a qualifying event for consideration for nominations for both the Academy Award® for Best Documentary Short Subject and The Producers Guild of America Awards. Martin Scorsese is the Chair of Full Frame's Advisory Board.

02.26.13 | We're honoured to announce Magnetic Reconnection's invitation to the 51st Annual Ann Arbor Film Festival. Ann Arbor is one of the most highly regarded film festivals for experimental filmmakers and has a reputation for promoting film as art. Established in 1963, it is the third-oldest film festival in North America. Since its inception, thousands of influential filmmakers and artists have showcased early work at the AAFF, including luminaries such as Kenneth Anger, Agnes Varda, Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, Gus Van Sant, Barbara Hammer, Lawrence Kasdan, Devo and Stan Brakhage. 

Magnetic Reconnection will screen at the gorgeous Michigan Theatre on opening night, March 19th.

02.19.13 | Another festival announcement, as Canadian Music Week Film Festival has selected Magnetic Reconnection to screen Saturday, March 23rd before "Apocalypse: A Bill Callahan Tour Film"… which is cool. Because, hey, its Bill Callahan! The screening happens at the Bell Lightbox in Toronto. 

02.14.13 | We have added a couple of dozen new screenings to our list. Highlights include the University of Colorado Film Department (with love to Stan Brakhage), two screenings at the New York Public Library for Performing Arts, our first screening in Rome (Italy), and, remarkably, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

02.09.13 | Another exciting festival announcement. Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to the 10th Annual True/False Film Festival.  The True/False Film Festival has become one of the most renowned documentary-centric festivals, and in their own words "highlights innovative work with a cinematic scope, creative takes on contemporary currents, and most of all work that provokes dialogue about its subject and the documentary form itself." 

Magnetic Reconnection will screen on Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night, each night outdoors on the festival's "Giant Wall"… this will be our first outdoor screening! The festival runs February 28 to March 3 in Columbia, Missouri.

02.06.13 | We're incredibly honoured to announce that Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to South by Southwest Film 2013. SXSW, in their own words, "champions the vitality, innovation and opportunity that drives the entertainment and media landscape, and boldly tackles the evolution of all aspects of film today, down to its very definition." It is now regarded as one of the most important festivals in North America.

The festival received over 3,600 short film submissions, with only 106 of those receiving invitations, and it's the only fully Canadian short film in this year's selections. This year’s festival runs from March 8 to 16 in Austin Texas, very nearly the one-year anniversary of the film-shoot in Churchill.

01.18.13 | We're pleased to announce that Magnetic Reconnection has received a Jury's Citation Award from the Black Maria Film Festival. Based in New Jersey the Black Maria Film Festival is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as an Academy Awards qualifying festival for short films. Starting in February Magnetic Reconnection will be a part of this touring festival and screening at over 50 art galleries, cinemas, universities and other public institutions.

Past screenings have taken place at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., Savannah College of Art and Design, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, The Edison-Ford Winter Estates and Museum in Ft. Myers, Fla, the University of Colorado, and The New York Public Library among others.

01.04.13 | Magnetic Reconnection has been invited to the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, running February 15-24. Based in Missoula Montana, the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival has become the premiere venue for non-fiction film in the American West. The film has also been invited to open the Nordlys Film Festival in Camrose, Alberta on February 15th; the screening also includes a Q&A with Kyle Armstrong and Trond Trondsen.

12.12.12 | Magnetic Reconnection will be screening again in NYC at Conveyor Magazine's new issue launch, Dark Matter on December 23rd. The film will also be opening the Nordlys Film Festival in nearby Camrose, Alberta in February. Recent press also includes Premiere Magazine France, Argentinian Arts Centre Faenasphere and a mention in the December issue ofWire just to name a few. More screenings to announce in the new year! 10.15.12 | We're very proud to announce the World Premiere for Magnetic Reconnection at AFI FEST 2012, November 1-8. AFI FEST, part of the American Film Insitute, is the only film festival in the US to hold FIAPF (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films) accreditation and is a qualifying festival for short film Academy Award nominations.
